Grab your mates, a Tallboy beer and snuggle into the new, local brewery and bar in Melbourne’s north.
If you listen carefully, you’ll hear Tallboy & Moose calling your name from down the street. This local brewery in Preston is so cozy and inviting that you’ll instantly forget you’re in a converted warehouse. Fun, bright colours on the walls, comfy couches, long tables for groups, a fireplace and friendly staff – all you could ever ask for in a brewery in Melbourne in 2017.
The first thing I noticed when walking in were the happy, little kiddos running around. I mean, these kids are getting to hang out at a trendy brewery from the age of 3, soaring past their peers on the coolness ladder – what’s there not to be happy about?! It goes without saying, this is a for sure a kid-friendly place.
Just past the entrance, there’s an area with couches. You hear a little voice inside your head say, “welcome home”. You smile and keep walking past the bar and tables and enter your second couched up living room, this one equipped with a table tennis table and views of the brewing equipment. You’re pretty certain that Tallboy & Moose just became your home away from home.
You’ll find a selection of their fresh, house-brewed beers on tap as well as some guest beers, local wine and spirits also available. I would be inclined to taste my way through all of the house-brewed beers before moving onto the guest beers. Unfortunately, being designated Dave this time around, I was only able to try the Tallboy’s Cream Ale, which was very smooth and easy to drink. You can also grab an XL 1L can to go of any of their house beers!
There is no kitchen here, but your food options are unlimited! How? Well, they allow you to BYO food, which is pretty neat. They also recommend a few local eateries you can pick up some food from, like pizza from Noi, Chew Burger and UAE. Or if you’re too lazy to do that, they often have food trucks parked at the front. The Curry Up Now food trailer was serving up delicious food until 8:30pm the night I was there.
Friendly and laid-back vibes all around. You will feel like you’re drinking beer at a mates house, with some of his top-bloke mates there, too, who you don’t know, but could smile at if you made eye contact. I was really impressed with Tallboy & Moose and being a northsider myself, am grateful for this successful, new brewery opening it’s doors to the locals. Many more visits will be had.
